Sisters Grab the Spotlight at the Georgia Capitol

The first week of March is always national Women In Construction week, and the Southeastern Carpenters took the opportunity to pair female members of the Council with Georgia legislators during a visit to the state capitol. Several of our members, who also are part of the Council’s Sisters in the Brotherhood program, made an impact at the March 2 session. Both the House & Senate recognized several SECRC Sisters, and the entire House gave them a standing ovation!

The sisters met and spoke with Senator Sally Harrell (second from left with Tammy Tatum, Local 225 SIB Chair; Darian Brooks, Local 256; and Mildred Starlings Local 283 SIB Chair).

Inside the chambers, Representative Michele Henson (bottom left) brought attention to Women in Construction week and recognized our group of women union carpenters, who were watching from the gallery (top left). Representing the SECRC were (right) Darian Brooks (Local 256); Mildred Starlings (Local 283 SIB Chair); Jenny Thomas (Local 283); and Tammy Tatum (Local 225 SIB Chair), shown here with Rep. Henson. Learn more about the SECRC SIB program!
