New Charlotte Training Center is Almost Ready!

New Carpenter Training Center Sets the Stage for Construction Partnerships to help Charlotte Grow

A new resource for construction manpower is about to become a reality in Charlotte, NC!

A new 25,000 square-foot Training Center is just about completed on nearly six acres of land at 1928 Back Creek Drive, sitting east of I-85 in the University East Business Park.

When it opens in January 2021, the facility will be a beautiful, safe, secure structure with maintained grounds and green spaces. Inside will be 5,500 square feet of classrooms, computer labs and instructor offices. It also will house the offices of Local 312 of the Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council (SECRC).

“Our purpose is to be a partner that contributes to the building of Charlotte. We are positioned to supply actual solutions on construction projects and keep safety and productivity at the level needed to meet the building demands of the population growth Charlotte is experiencing,” said Tom Jenkins, executive secretary-treasurer of the SECRC.

“We are already working closely with local contractors and construction industry leaders, as well as local government and civic leaders for ways to leverage the facility for collaborative projects.”

The Training Center will prepare a local workforce of professional carpenters with the skills needed to create an excellent quality of life for themselves and their families. Skills taught there will include:

·       Millwork and trim

·       Metal Stud Framing

·       Drywall

·       Doors and Hardware

·       Flooring

·       Heavy Form / Concrete

·       Scaffolding

·       Leadership

·       Jobsite communication

·       Collaborative training with contractors, building owners, etc.

Because of COVID-19 and in response to the critical need to protect patients and staff at healthcare facilities during construction work, there is also a comprehensive mockup to hone skills in Construction ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment).

The Center is expected to open in January 2021. Until then, watch the building process by clicking here: https://www.sectt.net/Charlotte-Training-Center/
