Apprenticeship Week Gets Official Proclamation in Texas

Training Director Paul Jones (left) and Austin Training Coordinator Bobby Vasquez (right)

This week is National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), and our Texas training programs are being recognized for their efforts. Texas Governor Greg Abbott made an official proclamation in honor of this week. Texas Workforce Commissions Julian Alvarez made sure a copy of the proclamation made it into the carpenters union's hands.

As part of this week's activities, the Central South Training program was asked to participate in the Houston Area Apprenticeship Council's virtual and in-person seminar. Central South training leaders gave a great presentation about the benefits of working as a union apprentice.

NAW is a nationwide celebration where industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of registered apprenticeship for re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities. NAW is an opportunity to highlight how registered apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, provides a critical talent pipeline that can help to address some of our nationís pressing workforce challenges such as responding to critical supply chain demands and supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our cybersecurity response, addressing public health issues, and rebuilding our countryís infrastructure.
